WHO WE ARE

MESSY, formerly ElleLui, is where authentic connection meets raw expression. We bring Lesbian, Queer & Trans art to the forefront through live events and digital media.

Whether you’re on the dance floor or discovering new artists, we bring you closer to art, culture, and the people that shape it. MESSY is here to keep things real, relevant and always a little chaotic.

VALUES

Our productions are created by and for Lesbian, Queer & Trans people. We use these terms to include a broad spectrum of identities. Everyone is welcome, no matter your label. We ask those who don’t identify with the groups we exist to bring together to be mindful of the space they take up and how their behaviour impacts others.

We wouldn’t exist without the incredible artists who make our events what they are. They deserve to be paid fairly, always.

We work with artists and collaborators who not only bring their talent but also understand the importance of working with marginalized communities. This means adding to the well-being and enjoyment of our audiences, not just profiting off of them.

We expect everyone at our events to respect each other and recognize that varied & intersectional identities shape how we experience queer spaces.

We don’t tolerate any kind of discrimination; hate speech, racism, ableism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, fatphobia, and ageism are not welcomed. Any attendee who harasses or is violent towards an artist, attendee or staff member will be asked to leave.

Our approach to substance use is harm reduction. If you or someone near you has overconsumed or needs support, find a staff member for assistance. Always try to leave the venue with someone you trust and let your pals know when you leave.

Consent is a must on and off the dancefloor. Ask before touching, dancing with, or getting close to someone and respect a “no,” whether verbal, tonal or physical. Consent is ongoing, so check in regularly and see if everyone is still having a good time.

Beyond fellow attendees, we ask that you be respectful of artists’ and staff members’ personal space and never touch them without permission.

While we work hard to make our events as safe as possible, we recognize that no event can be entirely free from harm. If you experience or witness harm, reach out to one of our team members on-site. If you’re unable to do so during the event, feel free to contact us afterward.

It’s important to us that our events are as inclusive as possible but we know they aren’t fully accessible for everyone. Our events take place in different venues with varying levels of accessibility. If you have any questions, suggestions, or need a free ticket for a support worker, please reach out to info@elleluimtl.com.
